South Australia's Competitiveness Council has one clear task – to recommend practical ways the State Government can make SA the most competitive place in which to invest and do business in Australia and New Zealand.

The Council was set up in 2006 and its membership includes business leaders, economic specialists and policymakers. Our brief is to identify, develop and champion reforms which enhance SA’s competitiveness and generate further investment.

Adelaide has been benchmarked against other cities – in Australia and around the world - and we’ve rated exceptionally highly in terms of competitiveness and affordability. There’s so much happening in our regional areas too – in industries such as agriculture, wine, tourism, mining and energy.

But we’re determined to be even better. We want to build on our competitive edge - reduce business costs, streamline development processes, cut red tape, and ensure we continue to have both a skilled and available workforce and the world-class infrastructure we need to support economic growth.

This is not a simple task - there are some tough issues to tackle. We are working closely with our government departments to improve the way they interact with businesses and we are talking to the business community about how we can all operate more efficiently.

South Australia’s attractiveness as a place to invest is supported by the clear focus and discipline provided through South Australia’s Strategic Plan. This is a 10-year program with specific targets addressing innovation, education and training, investment in infrastructure and sustainable development.
